Whilst a Cambridge Rocking microtome is perfect for those without any microtomy experience, a rotary microtome has the potential for a much wider range of tissues that are embedded in paraffin wax. The main reason for this is that the operator applies the pressure needed for cutting with the microtome wheel with their own arm as opposed to the springs that do this for you with a rocking microtome that you cannot control. The quality of this microtome is in the name - Reichert. Excellently engineered with section thickness from 1 to 25 microns. There is also a ribbon moving wheel that links to the cutting mechanism. The knife angle is fully adjustable. The specimen clamp allows movement in all directions to ensure the specimen presents to the knife in the correct position. There is also a safety clamp when working on the microtome. This is a professional piece of equipment available at a price that represents an opportunity for anyone wanting to use microtomy.
