The SP13 Dual Light microscope is exclusive to Brunel Microscopes and is an ideal microscope for the young enquiring mind without having many of the constraints of a standard biological microscope. The laws of light physics dictates that it is not possible to manipulate or dissect whole objects with a biological microscope because of the closeness of the objectives to the specimen, the fact that images are inverted and that usually whole objects are not transparent so that the transmitted light does not get through. However by having a light shining down onto the microscope stage from just behind the objectives the SP13 can look at the surface of whole objects when using the two lowest magnifications (x40 and x100). The x400 magnification has the objective just too close to the specimen for the top light to get in.

The microscope in addition to the normal transmitted lighting of a biological microscope also has a focused LED light source on a flexible arm. Using x5, x10, and x20 long working distance objectives there is enough working distance between a slide and the objective for this light to illuminate a solid specimen with angled lighting from above which therefore does not compete with the image in the optical path. Ideal for looking at coins, swarp, topic structure of botanical and zoological specimens. Not in prepared slide format.

Four position objective turret with a precise internal indexing mechanism. Parfocal DIN standard plan objectives x4, x10, x40, x100 (oil), matched with extremely widefield plan x10 eyepieces. x20 and x60 objectives are available as accessories. The microscope head is rotatable through 360 degrees and has full dioptric and interocular adjustment. The large mechanical stage measures 135 x 125mm with a movement range of 75 x 35mm, and has drop down coaxial controls and double vernier scales. The substage condenser (N.A. 1.25) has a full rack and pinion control mechanism, centring adjusters and an iris diaphragm and filter carrier with daylight filter. The low position coaxial coarse and fine focus system in includes a tension adjustment and variable safety stop. The safety stop can also be used as a prefocus device as it does not effect the fine focus movement. The Kohler Illumination is by a particularly effective LED system which provides enhanced brightness with no heat gain.

A McArthur type hand held microscope with LWD objectives x4, x10 and x40. Complete with LED illumination. The SP29D has a bright field x4 objective, a dark field x10 and a x40 phase contrast. These lighting options are produced by elements within the battery powered light source and cannot be changed when using the battery powered light unit. However if natural daylight is used for lighting then all objectives behave as standard bright field. So the choice between the SP29 and SP29D depends on the type of specimens to be examined and how often the lamp unit would need to be used.
