This is a set of 12 sections of frog and rat tissues slides stained by haematoxylin and eosin. Made by the late Eric Marson of Northern Biological Supplies (NBS) who has become somewhat of a legend in the technology of slide preparation - and rightly so. From the style of the labels they would seem to date from the 1980's. A collectors set.

This is a set of 25 slides of botanical material prepared by probably the last UK slide preparation company - ESP in Sussex. The material was designed to cover the various botanical classification features that apply to botany and includes primitive plant forms such as ferns and liverworts to the more complex structures such as sunflower, bean and pine. All slides are different. Good value and good quality.

An amazing set of 6 slides that have been produced with great technical skill which has required some of the slides to have a build-up of mountant to contain the depth of specimen. Others have been ringed as appropriate. Each slide shows the complete chicken foetus at the following stages of early development. 18 - 24 hours, 30 hours, 33 hours, 36 hours, 40 hours, 66 hours. We have not seen such a series before.

The set includes the garden earthworm (section), part of a dog tapeworm, tubifex worms (also known by the delightful names of sludge or sewage worms - so guess where they live!), pin worm (also known as thread worm), liver fluke and pork tapeworm. This is a set of twelve rock sections produced from material from Tenerife. These are particularly thin sections that have clearly been prepared by someone who knows what they are doing. Each slide is labelled with pen and ink and the set includes; basalt, volcanic granitic, granite, red pebble, black sand, grey pebble, limestone, marble, micrite, conglomerate, trachyte.

John Thomas Norman (1814 - 1893) was one of the best from this period of Victorian microscopy mounters and his material is now sought after by collectors. Wood is one of the most difficult specimens to prepare for microscopy and these preparations are exceptional. Each wood has transverse, longitudinal and oblique sections in the one preparation. Each is labelled with pen and ink and the labels bear the Norman logo. The wood species are beech, yew, cherry, ash, hornbeam, sequoia wellingtonia, strawberry tree, elm and oak. These are excellent slides.

This is a Victorian stage micrometer slide that is beautifully paper covered with the logo CT . A series of rules lines 100microns apart covering a distance of 1000microns condition excellent and includes a card sheath.

A set of fourteen Victorian moth and butterfly wing part slides. These have obviously been collected for their common content even though they were made by a number of different preparers. Three by Norman, one by C Baker and one paper covered and dated 1866. In addition there is a whole wing preparation although the specimen source is not stated. A colourful set of slides.

This is a pair of wooden dry mount slides that have a central well with a rotating cover. Dating from about 1900 this was the way that whole objects were viewed using top light from the sun.
