Staining Solutions: 30mls

30 mls of Carbol Fuchsin, used as a general bacteria stain and specifically for TB.

30 mls of Erhlichs Haematoxylin, used for staining zoological materials in the Haematoxylin & Eosin (H & E) technique. Produces blue cell nuclei.

30 mls of Fast Green in Cellosolve, a classic botanical structure stain.

30 mls of Safranin in Cellosolve, a classic botanical stain, used in conjunction with Fast green.

30 mls of Lactophenol Cotton Blue. The stain for fungi.

30 mls of Leishman Stain, used for staining blood smears.

A good general purpose stain that colours most structures varying shades of blue. Recommended as an introduction.

30 mls of Millers Elastin Stain, used to stain elastic fibres in zoological tissues.

30 mls of Harris Haematoxylin, used to stain zoology structures in the classic Haematoxylin and Eosin technique (H&E). Stains cell nuclei a darker blue than Erhlichs Haematoxylin.

30 mls of Nigrosin, the classic negative stain. Most living structures will not be stained by Nigrosin and they are demonstrated negatively as white against a black background.

30 mls of Van Gieson, which is a counterstain to be used after Haematoxylin to show muscle and connective tissues.

30 mls of Aqueous Eosin, the classic counterstain for Haematoxylin, staining connective tissue shades of pink/orange.
